The Tenant Role
The tenants’ role is best seen as an evolving partnership with CRC Self Help. At its base is the agreement between the tenant and CRC Self Help regarding the mutual expectations around ones tenancy. These include the individual and group responsibilities listed earlier within the context of the self-help model. In a broader sense, it is nurtured as a key and very special relationship, a “partnership”.
As partners with CRC Self Help it is intended that tenants will:
- Act in a liaison capacity between CRC Self Help and the community both in finding others who might benefit from CRC Self Help's housing and in building good neighbourhood and community relationships.
- Participate in the maintenance program within their projects.
- Make suggestions on how the housing program might most effectively be expanded.
- Give feedback, on a regular basis, on how well the self-management program is working.
- Suggest ways and means in which maintenance and other physical house operation requirements might be improved upon.
- Provide ideas on improving on the concept of self-help and its implementation within the house setting.
- Serve on various committees as the opportunities present themselves.
